My mother raised us in the Catholic church (Roman Catholic). I went to Catholic school for all grade levels (except 7th and 8th). I was baptized, received Holy Communion, and later participated in the Confirmation ceremony. My mother made sure we were present for Sunday mass every Sunday (until I reached the 5th grade). The only time my mother interacted with the church (or its principals) was during church services or ceremonies.
On a day to day basis, she leaned more toward the supernatural; she believed she could cast spells and contact spirits. I remember séances being held in our home, and she owned a Ouija board. Although I was taught Catholicism, the stronger influence from my mother was geared toward contacting and communicating with spirits (with an emphasis on warding off the evil ones).
