What were you like as a child?

I was generally quiet and pensive; I felt it was better to remain in the background and observe what was going on around me.

I was not competitive; my closest sister and brother loved to play competitive games, and I would usually decide to watch rather than compete (I would volunteer to be the “judge,” or keep score).

I was also inquisitive; I loved reading and learning new things.

I used to climb trees (I stopped after I fell out of one during a family picnic). I remember how calming it felt to sit on a branch high in a tree, and watch everyone going about their lives below.

I was very emotional…my moods guided me… I threw temper tantrums well into adolescence.

I used to have night terrors, and walked in my sleep up until the fourth grade. My parents took me to a therapist; I’m not sure if it helped, but I do remember that she had cool toys to play with.

  1. My brothers called me Jungle Jim. Crazy about the woods and never in the house. Loved my childhood.
