Describe your first elementary school. What was your first day there like?

Blog post - 51

My first elementary school was Saint Lucy School on E. 104th street in Manhattan. I don’t remember the specifics of my first day; I do remember getting ready for school that morning. I remember the plastic bags containing my new uniforms on my bed. There were three bags of shirts, and three red ties. I opened and closed the tie (I was going to wear that day) a couple of times trying to figure out how to put it on. Initially, I fastened the tie over my collar (my older sister adjusted it for me). I also had two skirts on hangers; there was a “SLS” patch on the left side lapel of each skirt. I wore short white ankle socks, and black and white saddle shoes. I remember being nervous and excited. I walked to school with my older sister; I remember holding her hand as we crossed 1st avenue. We stopped to buy a few pieces of candy at a store along the way. We then walked a block to get to 104th street. I remember people waiting outside of the school when we arrived. The rest of that day is a blur for me…
