I have given this one a lot of thought; the main reason why is because I didn’t have any BEST friends during my teen years.
I interacted with a couple of my peers from the neighborhood, but I never developed a close relationship with anyone. One of those people was a friend (at least I thought she was) I had when I was 13. When I realized I was pregnant, I confided in her, and she immediately told all our peers (who told their friends, and so on…). From that point on, for the most part, I kept to myself.
There was one other person that I began to develop a friendship with, but my brother assaulted her. When she told her parents, they pressed charges against him. At the time, my mother convinced me and my siblings that the girl was not being truthful about the attack. As a result, I “sided” with my “family” and the budding friendship dissolved. Years later, I found out that my brother had indeed attacked her.
