Personal experiences shape us as individuals…these are mine.
Author: Dr. Roberta Callaway
I was born in Brooklyn, New York. I enlisted in the US Navy after high school, and served as an electrical engineer. After 20 years of military service, I decided to follow my passion for education and become a high school English teacher; I taught for 10 years. During that time, I earned Master’s degrees in Secondary Education and Reading; I also certified as a Reading and Curriculum/Instruction Specialist. I earned my doctoral degree in curriculum and Instruction in 2016, and immediately started the next leg of my journey as a critical reading and writing professor. I am very interested in the components of effective teaching, and cultural awareness/sensitivity in the classroom, and plan to find ways to help create awareness and understanding of the elements needed to effectively create a culturally/socially diverse learning environment.
To date, I have a couple of publications: “Our Collaborative Team,” (a professional learning module designed to help educators refine their understanding of how a Professional Learning Team can function more effectively) published in: Instructional Modules for Professional Learning Responding to Opportunities and Valuing Educators (IMPROVE). Book 1., and "A Correlational Study of Teacher Efficacy and Culturally Responsive Teaching Techniques in a Southeastern Urban School District," published in the Journal of Organizational & Educational Leadership (JOEL).
I personally believe that every soul has a purpose...
